Please help be bring Milo back home!! [Feb. 16th, 2009|05:01 pm]
American Eskimos and the People who Love Them!

Hi Everyone,

I introduced you to Milo in my last post (directly below this one!) Milo is a special needs Eskie that we rescued from a kill shelter at 9 weeks of age. I have fostered him since then, and he is already 6 months old! Due to poor breeding and neglect during his first weeks of life, Milo suffered extensive neurological damage that has left him with many disabilities. Though he is nearly blind, he doesn't walk into walls and can navigate very well. He has very little sense of smell, but can always find his food! 3 out of 4 of the lobes in his brain are damaged, which has stalled his cognitive ability remarkably. He may never be trainable, and that includes potty training, though I'd seen some progress before he moved into his new "permanent" foster home a few weeks ago. He had also shown improvement going down stairs, having gone from blindly falling down to recognizing that something was happened with the floor, and not moving or cautiously moving down. Don't worry, the only stairs we use weren't stairs he could hurt himself on.

Caring for Milo is a full time job. Milo also has seizures. He has had them since puppyhood, and are also an effect of poor breeding, neglect, and malnutrition. Fortunately, we've been able to control his seizures with medication, and they were infrequent and mild when he moved on. Given the extent of time I'd invested in MIlo for so long, our organization felt that a break was necessary, and we thought we'd found a permanent foster home for Milo to live until a spot opens up for him with an animal hospice organization.

Unfortunately, Milo's new foster home did not work out. Not only did it not work out, his new foster parent has advocated to put him to sleep and has given the rescue a minimum of a few days to move Milo from their home in IL to mine in Colorado. ERU spent $500 to get Milo to the new foster, and is desperately seeking help to get him back. Because of his special needs, Milo needs to be driven by car, preferably by one person. We have found someone who will make the trip, but the cost is not cheap.

Please help us get Milo back home. I will match the total contribution of all money donated. If the total exceeds Milo's transport costs, the funds will go towards his medical care.

My Paypal address is heather@petceterapetsitting.com.

Thank you all, so much.

I need you to confirm donations from people outside of my circle of friends, if there are any, before I can start work.
